What: Defibrillator Training Course
Why: It is estimated that there are up to 175,000 heart attacks in
the UK each year, that's one every three minutes. Eleven children a week have a cardiac arrest. The Baschurch defibrillators have already been used several times and have saved lives. Now Ruyton XI Towns can do the same!
Avril Sanders Royle, local chiropractor, is working with the school to organise training for local people. She says, "We need to have a list of people who are available at some times - maybe as little as just one half day or an evening a week when they can be called in the event of a cardiac arrest. With the technology available a call will automatically go to the people all the trained people so that one of them to get to school and take the defibrillator to the casualty. The equipment is really easy to use and requires the volunteers to attend a short course to learn how to use it. We need ALL the people who are close by to learn how to use the defib and help reduce the country's leading cause of death. The Parish Council have already provided training for 17 people."
