Shrewsbury's Canal Heritage

Shrewsbury and Newport Canal Trust is holding an exhibition at Shrewsbury Flaxmill Maltings to celebrate the county's and particularly, Shrewsbury's canal heritage.

Through a variety of historic artefacts and displays, the exhibition showcases the history of the Shrewsbury & Newport Canals, their decline and the work by the trust and other organisations to highlight the importance of these canals, their history, the environment they create, and the benefits of their restoration.

The free exhibition will be open in The Dye House from 23 March 2024 until the 19 April 2024 inclusive, with opening times from 10:00 to 16:00. Please note, the exhibition will be closed 26 and 27 March.

Flaxmill Friday

With the upcoming focus on the exhibition by the Shrewsbury and Newport Canals Trust, Shrewsbury Flaxmill Maltings is delighted to welcome two unique bands.

The Shropshire Boatmen and Mice in a Matchbox will be performing in Turned Wood Café on 22 March.

Yoga Brunch at Turned Wood Café

Earthed Wisdom hosted an exclusive, morning yoga brunch, a gentle yoga flow designed to wake up the body and mind.

This was followed by a bespoke vegetarian and plant-based continental-style brunch. There is an evening yoga workshop coming up this April!

Heritage Assistant Recruitment

Are you interested in a career in heritage?

We are offering two site-based work placements to help support the visitor experience at Shrewsbury Flaxmill Maltings. Participants will have the opportunity to be part of Historic England's flagship project, working with the Flaxmill Maltings Project Team. These roles are supported through The National Lottery Heritage Fund thanks to National Lottery players.

We are looking for applicants who have great communication and team-working skills and an interest in visitor operations within a heritage context. If that sounds like you, this placement will be a brilliant opportunity to gain experience in visitor services and working with volunteers on an industrial heritage site.
