Llanymynech Amateur Dramatic Society will be investigating a murder on
Wednesday 21 - Saturday 24 November 2012
Performances start at 7.45 p.m. Tickets are available from Llanymynech Post Office, Llanymynech Village Hall (tel: 01691 839147 to reserve), Oswestry Herbarium and Mile End TIC. Price: £6 (£5 concessions) E-mail: tickets@lads-online.co.uk. Tea and coffee wil be on offer and of course there will be a bar (hooray!)
The production this time is "Murder in Play" by Simon Brett. The clue is in the title really! It's abut a play with a murder in it. But who gets murdered and, more importantly, whodunnit? Of course, everyone has a motive because in the best tradition of whodunnits the murder victim is thoroughly unpleasant.
31st October will be celebrated across America as Halloween, when children in their hundreds cruise up and down residential streets knocking on doors and proclaiming the challenging words "Trick or Treat" - they then spend the next week on a sugar rush resembling an epidemic.
Halloween is not a British festival so if any children come roaring round your street, make sure they know if you do not approve of this American introduction: turn off all the lights round the front and back doors, pull the curtains and put up a sign like the one in tonight`s Shropshire Star which announces
"Sorry, no trick or treat thank yooooo"!
The last child who came trick or treating at my door was presented with a cabbage - much healthier than sweets - and that was about 30 years ago.
Almost as strange as Haloween is the Mexican DAY OF THE DEAD FESTIVAL AT MARKET HALL
Pat Jones, from Beyond the Purple Door, is creating a special mural to mark the occasion. People can get involved by drawing on a giant chalkboard to create the ‘mural wall of the dead’ on November 2 and 3, between 10am and 4pm. There will also be the opportunity to toast lost loved ones with a drink as well as a chance to purchase some Mexican and Mexican inspired artwork.
The Day of the Dead, or Día de los Muertos, traditionally takes place on November 1 in connection with the Catholic holidays of All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day (November 2).
The festival is growing in popularity and is now celebrated all over the world. It focuses on gatherings of family and friends to pray for, and remember, loved ones who have died.
There a lot of British soldiers who have died in present and past wars who we can think of on this day
BABS, the world land speed record-breaking racing car designed, built and driven by J G Parry Thomas
Please note, although J.G. Parry Thomas was born in Wrexham the family moved to Oswestry when `Parry Thomas` was 5 and he grew up in the town and was educated at Oswestry School - so he is more of an Oswestrian than a Wrexham man!!!
Babs, the world land speed record-breaking racing car designed, built and driven by J G Parry Thomas of Wrexham into the record books in 1926, is making a special one-off visit north to wrexham this friday november 2nd. please pass the message on to anyone who may be interested. details are in the attached press release and on the poster.
An email has duly arrived this morning advising me of the Candidates standing for Election to become our new Police & Crime Commissioner. Remember that Election Day is 15th November (in Ruyton XI Towns we vote in the Memorial Hall) Also remember that the last date to register onto the Electoral Roll in order to be able to vote is 31st October. The email directs us to a web site, that lists our three candidates. This is the address of the web site:-
Statement by the Police Area Returning Officer for West Mercia
This website contains more information about those candidates (where provided) and other information useful to voters. The information provided by a candidate is their responsibility, and may not reflect the opinions of myself or my council.
As Police Area Returning Officer I am responsible for coordinating the election and announcing the result in West Mercia.
Police and Crime Commissioner Elections will be held in West Mercia on 15 November 2012; the candidates standing in that election, alphabetically by surname (as they will appear on the ballot paper), are:
BLACKSHAW, Adrian James Michael (The Conservative Party Candidate)
LONGMORE, Bill (Independent)
MURPHY, Simon (Labour Party Candidate)
I can be contacted at:
Claire Porter

claire.porter@shropshire.gov.uk
On the ballot paper you will be able to vote for your FIRST choice AND (if you want) a SECOND choice.
The Shropshire Star also carries information about the Candidates here:-
Our Memorial Hall has been booked all day on Thursday 15th November for the Police & Crime Commissioner Elections. You should have received your Polling Card and a Booklet from the Electoral Commission by now (you can see the booklet at www.aboutmyvote.co.uk ) Information about the Candidates in our area should be available on this web site as well - though there was nothing there when I looked this morning. If you are not yet Registered to enable you to vote, remember Registration closes on 31st October.
There is a Public Husting arranged in Shrewsbury on Friday 9th November - see this page:- http://bit.ly/PTYKfZ There seem to be many points of view regarding these Elections - "pity it seems to be mostly Party Political" is common, "important change to make Police more accountable" is another, "total waste of time and money - I encourage you not to vote" is the view of an ex-Met Commissioner, Sir Ian Blair:-http://thetim.es/PU0lCn But whatever your view, access to the information is important.
Anyone who can't access the on-line information is welcome to visit the Broadplace on a Friday between 11:00 and 3:00 and we will help you find what you want.
I have requested an email alert when Candidate Information is published - I will get Yoland to copy it round this distribution list when it comes.
