Oswestry Library - fantastic stats

Do read these fantastic statistics from Oswestry Library, not only a source of information but such a lively and active community centre for us all.

A very Merry Christmas from Oswestry Library 

Firstly a big thank you to local artist John Swogger who designed our Christmas card this year celebrating the wonder and magic of reading.

Secondly we would like to take this opportunity to thank you for supporting your local library this year and to give you a round-up of all of the great things that we have been involved with.

225,629 people visited the library this year and 129,075 books were loaned

 There were 24,000 Shropshire Council enquiries about a range of Shropshire Council services dealt with by Customer Services staff in the Hub

 1,321 new people joined the library this year bringing the total active membership to 6401 people

 Library customers used 7467 hours of free computer time, many for online job searches and printing CVs

 In total 2,680 volunteer hours were offered by 32 adult local volunteers covering local history sessions, IT help, helping with events/activities, as Friends of Oswestry Library and provision of the home library service.

 93 Local and family history sessions were offered with volunteers helping with 307 enquiries

79 people received free one-to-one IT help sessions

Young people have also offered their time through 87 hours of Duke of Edinburgh service for bronze, silver and gold awards and 6 weeks of work experience by year 10 and 12 students

 25 Time to listen (stories aloud for adults) sessions were attended by 275 people.

83 Learning events were put on, in partnership with 75 local organisations/artists, attended by 1660 people of all ages

 15 author and book related events attended by 389 people of all ages

 24 Work clubs were held supporting 79 people who are looking for work

Display space was used for 55 displays by local community organisations

22 class visits to the library from local schools involved 640 local primary school children

49 visits running sessions in local primary schools and nurseries involved 1,568 children

36 homework club sessions were run with professional help offered to children 9-14 years

 83 rhyme and story time sessions attended by 785 pre-school children and 557 parents & carers
