Having requested an update from BT I have received this. I have added a few notes myself in bold, since parts may be a bit technical for some. And note that "released" means that OpenReach have passed the phone number to BT Retail to make it available for them to take orders for Infinity on that number. BT Retail then have to update their availability web site (normally about three weeks) and then an order can be placed on that number. Actual physical installation then takes another two weeks or so - understandably they are pretty busy!
Hope it helps - should have more information by end Jan.
Around 70% of the EO (these are "Exchange Only" lines - premises currently fed by a copper wire directly from the exchange rather than via a green cabinet) has been released. We expect the remainder to be complete by the end of December, and we hope the majority of customers will then be able to place orders by mid-January. We do have a few civils involving the railway crossing which may take a little longer. (This may delay connection to homes over the crossing by the Fire Station on Marton Road etc)
To overcome engineering issues that we have encountered (to avoid the introduction of telegraph poles to locate our equipment on which we found the residents were not keen on) the remaining area will be a mixture of FTTC and FTTP. We are completing a review of the area at the moment and once this review has taken place we will be able to provide estimated completion dates
This means that Openreach have accepted that Fibre To The Cabinet {FTTC} is an easier solution that Fibre To The Premises {FTTP} in our area - thank heavens for that! Ruyton is covered using FTTC and it works well - speeds of 37mbps at the "normal" cost and up to 76mbps if you pay more. Hardly anyone has paid the extra - there is no need - 37mbps is BLISTERING after the 2 - 4 that we used to get. However, FTTP is still potentially faster, offering 100mbps if required.
