West Felton CARNIVAL

Message from Samantha Griffiths, West Felton.

Ruyton people often say they would like our carnival to be resurrected - so why not support West Felton`s super efforts, it is one of the XI Towns1

West Felton is Gearing Up for Carnival Time!

A fun-packed spectacular is once again set to hit the streets of West Felton on Sunday 13 July 2014.

The carnival festivities will start with the Carnival King & Queen and their attendants leading a grand procession of decorated floats through the village at 1.30pm from the village hall.

“This year we are inviting entries into the float competition from local businesses” explained Eileen Hamner, the Secretary of West Felton Carnival Committee “ perhaps if you’re involved with a float in the Oswestry Christmas Parade you may fancy having a bash putting a float together for our village carnival this year – just give me a call to enter your float” - Eileen can be contacted on 01691 610629.

The float judges this year are Edward and Kirsten Nicholas of Sutton Farm & Charlie and Cheryl Brown from Shottaton.

“This year’s entertainment includes Harry Hamilton and his birds of prey, Professor Humo’s magic show, West Felton School Choir, the Porth-y-Waen Silver Band ” explained Eileen “There’s truly something for everyone, including a display by the MD Warriors karate group, a local belly dancing group, a fun fair and a mini train ride,”

“The village’s playing fields on Tedsmore Road (SY11 4EH) will host the event with gates opening at 2pm and everyone’s welcome to come along and join in the fun” she added.

The event will also see a whole array of side stalls and craft stalls plus a tombola, bric-a-brac stand, bottle stall with the tea, cakes and ice cream courtesy of West Felton Women’s Institute, a fully-licensed bar, tasty BBQ and the legendary carnival grand draw with a 1st prize of £100.

“There will be basket making and blacksmith demonstrations as well as a circus workshop which will all run throughout the afternoon ” explained Eileen, “plus there’s lots more to be announced between now and the event”.

Admission is just £2.00 for adults and FREE for children/senior citizens with events and entertainment throughout the afternoon.

There is currently still some availability for stalls so if you’re involved in a “cottage industry” or have something interesting to sell then why not have a stall at this year’s carnival – to book a stall please contact Eileen on 01691 610629.  Also have a look at www.westfeltoncarnival.webs.com and find us on facebook.
