I am planning to organise a few things for our Primary School youngsters to do in the School Holidays - mostly in the Village Hall.
I am thinking about the following activities (though might not be able to do them all):-
1 Recording Bingo Calls - see earlier email
2 Encouraging Creative Writing by "publishing" an on-line flip-book of their contributions - stories, poetry or play scripts etc. I hope to do an email about this later today
3 A Disco in the afternoon - the Hall is well-equipped with sound equipment and they normally end up worn out
4 A "Maths Workshop" - Singing Sums (tables) and Maths Games like at School
5 Scratch - an Introduction to this Computer Programming Language aimed at young children
6 Free Software - free alternatives to some of the expensive Office Suites etc that are used today - as much for grown-ups as children
7 eSafety - reinforcing the messages from School, using similar resources
8 A Film - Ice Age 3 seems popular but could be a different one - in HD on our HUGE screen and with our powerful sound system that will shake the walls when elephants fall off cliffs
9 A "Loom Band" Workshop - seems to be the latest craze!
Apart from a bit of pre-warning, the purpose of this email is to ask for help - in any of the activities really. But especially Loom Band Weaving - I confess I am not an expert!
Maybe some parents or grand-parents might like to help, or perhaps some ex-pupils now at Secondary School - there have been some excellent "helpers" at School on work experience for the last week or so. No pay, I'm afraid, but helpers will get a Certificate to recognise their contribution for their Record of Achievement.
I hope to be able to fix tea and coffee for grown-ups and light refreshments for children.
Each event will be free, but I would welcome a voluntary donation to help with Hall Rental. There will be a small charge for refreshments.
Events will mostly take place on Monday mornings and/or afternoons, or Tuesday mornings or Thursday afternoons - events will be advertised via Yoland's emails and her "Blog" (http://yo-emails.blogspot.com/ ) Please make sure all pupils and parents know what's going on.
Although I am cleared to CRB Enhanced level, some parents/carers would obviously have to accompany them, I am certainly not qualified as a Child-Minder!
These are not "school" projects, although I have copied this to our Head so that she is aware, and I hope they will complement and reinforce their formal learning - but mostly be fun.
