A family friendly event for all ages to be hosted at the Nesscliffe Army Training Camp to commemorate the start of The First World War. This will be a unique opportunity to reflect on the events of 100 years' ago, what they meant then, and what they mean now.
The day will include historical displays and exhibitions about local men who went to the war and what happened to them, what was happening back home, the experience of war expressed in Art, personal and military memorabilia and artefacts, war poetry and music, a book display, Battle of the Somme video room, and opportunities to contribute your thoughts and ideas.
Outside there will be a large picnic area, plenty of running around space, refreshments of various kinds, militaria, laser range, carrier pigeons, Red Cross and Royal British Legion tents, and other activities. At 5.15 there will be a Drumhead Service, parade, last post and the lowering of the standard. This Day to Remember will end at 6pm.
Entry is free and all are welcome. Ample free parking. Disabled access to all parts. Bring your own picnic chairs and/or rugs if you can.
