Shropshire Guild of Contemporary Craft 2018 Until 8 September This year it's been particularly hard not to be impressed by the diversity of exhibits and materials chosen and used by members of the Shropshire Guild of Contemporary Craft at this their annual summer exhibition. There's something for all budgets, with prices ranging from just a few pounds for handmade cards, small pieces of pottery and small accessories for the home, to larger sums for jewellery, glasswork, framed prints, sculpture, furniture and woven wall hangings. Tickets: £12 (children £6) Wilfred Owen's poetry set to song and an interpretation of his mother Susan's perspective of her son at war. Sting trio Faith Brackenbury (violin/viola, vocals), Jane Griffiths (violin/viola) and Barney Morse-Brown (cello) in collaboration with poet Leo Nitemynks. Tickets: £10 Guitar star Phillip is also a harmonica player, immersing himself in the music of the Deep South, traditional music of the British Isles and Indian classical music. Willow Gallery volunteer finance officer Dr Mike Willis has produced a collection of nursery rhyme cards from watercolours painted by his grandfather in the 1940s as keepsakes for his grandchildren. The full set of 24 cards with a charm all of their own can be seen and purchased from www.lovefromtheartist.com/Artists/oswestry/mike-willis (there is a facility on this site for you to customise your card). They can also be purchased at the Willow Gallery along with a mug range. After glazing and firing, they are put on oak stands. Use batik, fabric collage and embroidery to create an heirloom to hand down through the generations. A not-for-profit community interest company, it supports established and emerging artists (and particularly local talent) working across many disciplines, from painting and sculpture to fine woodworking, textile arts, pottery, jewellery, glass and photography. As well as regularly-changing exhibitions, we run artist-led workshops and courses, and hosts a programme of events, including live music, craft fairs, special exhibits, craft demonstrations and talks.
