Message from David Sheran, Doctor`s Meadow.
Can you make poppies? Do you have First World War memorabilia such as photographs, letters, medals, newspaper articles? Then perhaps you can help.
On the afternoon of Sunday 11 November there will be an event called 'Letters from World War One', to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the end of the war. The centrepiece of the event will be readings from the letters which were sent by/received by a local soldier called Harold Birch. The readings will be interspersed with music and singing. There will also be a display of memorabilia (photographs, newspaper articles, etc.) and a cascade of hundreds of poppies made by local people and set against a background of the list of names of soldiers from our area who were killed in the First World War.
The event is being organised by 'Church around the Cliffe' (the three parish churches of Ruyton XI Towns, Little Ness and Great Ness) and will be held in Great Ness Church.
If you are able to make poppies or can lend memorabilia for the event please do let the organisers know by sending an email to admin@churcharoundthecliffe.org.uk
