Sixteen years after their first collaboration on the groundbreaking Rivers and Tides, filmmaker Thomas Riedelsheimer returns with Leaning Into the Wind: Andy Goldsworthy, an absorbing documentary portrait of the influential British sculptor and environmentalist.

An award-winning, globally celebrated artist, Andy Goldsworthy OBE is known for works situated in rural and urban settings that combine materials and conditions from everyday surroundings - both monumental works of land art and others that exist only briefly before being altered or erased by natural processes. Riedelsheimer intimately captures Goldsworthy's exploration of the world and himself through these ephemeral and permanent workings on the landscape, cities and his own body.

As much an illumination of Goldsworthy's mind as it is an exquisitely shot exploration of his unique approaches to art, Leaning Into the Wind journeys from his home in Dumfriesshire to France, Brazil and the USA as he creates stunning works of art from the world around him. Meditative, transportive and visually ravishing, this is an essential reflection of its subject's increasing prominence and how his work continues to astound and inspire.

JULIE

BY POLLY STENHAM AFTER STRINDBERG

VANESSA KIRBY (The Crown, NTLive: A Streetcar Named Desire) and ERIC KOFI ABREFA (The Amen Corner) feature in the cast of this brand new production, directed by CARRIE CRACKNELL (NTLive: The Deep Blue Sea) and broadcast live from the National Theatre to cinemas.

Wild and newly single, Julie throws a late night party. In the kitchen, Jean and Kristina clean up as the celebration heaves above them. Crossing the threshold, Julie initiates a power game with Jean – which rapidly descends into a savage fight for survival.

This new version of August Strindberg's play Miss Julie, written by Polly Stenham, remains shocking and fiercely relevant in its new setting of contemporary London.

From legendary writer-director Paul Schrader comes a gripping new film that ranks among his very best work.

Reverend Ernst Toller (Ethan Hawke) is a solitary parish priest at a small church in upstate New York, which is on the cusp of celebrating its 250th anniversary. Now more of a tourist attraction catering to a dwindling congregation, it has long been eclipsed by its nearby parent church, Abundant Life, with its state-of-the-art facilities. When a pregnant parishioner (Amanda Seyfried) asks Reverend Toller to counsel her husband, a radical environmentalist, Toller is plunged into his own tormented past and finds himself questioning his own future and where redemption might lie. With the pressure on him beginning to grow, he must do everything he can to stop events spiralling out of control.

With an outstanding cast that includes Ethan Hawke (Boyhood, Maggie's Plan), Amanda Seyfried (Les Misérables, Twin Peaks) and Cedric Kyles (Larry Crowne, Barbershop), Schrader has delivered a thrillingly fierce film that features an utterly mesmerizing performance from Hawke in the lead role.

"'First Reformed," a mesmerizingly austere drama of one man's apocalyptic crisis of faith, feels like the movie Paul Schrader was put on this planet to make." **** The Washington Post

"Ethan Hawke is razor-sharp in this addictive thriller" ★★★★
Robbie Collin, The Daily Telegraph

When Baldwin and Inga's next door neighbours complain that a tree in their backyard casts a shadow over their sundeck, what starts off as a typical spat between neighbours in the suburbs unexpectedly and violently spirals out of control. Family drama and black comedy mix in a distinctive and freewheeling picture of suburban warfare. Icelandic director Hafsteinn Gunnar Sigurdsson, whose film Either Way was remade by David Gordon Green as Prince Avalanche, brings a wry sensibility to the lives of two families living in near identical cube houses.

Atli (Steinþór Hróar Steinþórsson) is promptly turfed out of his family house, and finds himself away from his wife and daughter and in the arms of his parents. If he was hoping for calm there, he is sorely mistaken, as they are in a bitter dispute with their neighbours over a tree shared by both houses. One side sees it as a beautiful piece of nature; the other, an obstruction to sunbathing. What follows is an acute social drama, alive to the hilarious pettiness of any two sides unwilling to back down.

Bringing a human touch to often unlikeable characters, awkward observational humour is never far from hand in this film that debuted at Venice Film Festival.

The second film from British director Johnathan Glazer (Sexy Beast, Under The Skin) has undergone a critical re-appraisal in recent years. Anna (Nicole Kidman) is a young widow getting on with her life after the death of her husband, Sean. Now engaged to be married, Anna meets a ten-year-old boy who tells her he is Sean reincarnated and knows things only Sean would know. Unable to ignore him, and much to the concern of her fiancée, Anna finds her contact with the boy leads her to question the choices she has made in her life.

Broadcast live from London's West End, see Ian McKellan's 'extraordinarily moving portrayal' (Independent) of KING LEAR.

Chichester Festival Theatre's production received five-star reviews for its sell-out run, and transfers to the West End for a limited season. Jonathan Munby directs this 'nuanced and powerful' (The Times) contemporary retelling of Shakespeare's tender, violent, moving and shocking play.

Considered by many to be the greatest tragedy ever written, KING LEAR sees two ageing fathers – one a King, one his courtier – reject the children who truly love them. Their blindness unleashes a tornado of pitiless ambition and treachery, as family and state are plunged into a violent power struggle with bitter ends.
