Market Roof-top Tours Back By Popular Demand
Roof-top tours of one of Shrewsbury's biggest buildings are back by popular demand, giving members of the public another chance to view the historic townscape from on high.
Town guide and local historian Stan Sedman will be leading the new round of free roof-top tours at Shrewsbury Market Hall on Friday October 21 and Saturday October 22.
Tours will be held both days at 11.30am, 12.30pm and 1.30pm. The Market Hall has staged the tours twice before with places booking up quickly.
"The tours are very popular. I think the Market Hall is a building in the town that people pass every day and think 'I'd like to go up there and see what I can see from the top," said Mr Sedman.
"Some people take photographs, other people just experience the scenery. On a lovely day you can see for miles with panoramic views of the town and over towards Grinshill.
"It shows Shrewsbury in an entirely different light. Some people love the chimneys, some people like to see the roof-tops of the historic buildings, some people like to see things they didn't even know existed and I think some people like to be nosey."
Market Hall facilities manager Kate Gittins said: "We're delighted to be able to put these tours on again and a big thank you goes to Stan for being our fantastic guide. His knowledge of Shrewsbury and its history really brings the town alive from up there.
"We first held roof-top tours for our 50th anniversary last year, but so many people wanted to come they got booked up very quickly. We had many people on a waiting list for more and held a second round a month later.
These too were in high demand and we were left with over 30 people on a waiting list."
