Haunted Shrewsbury by Martin Wood

`Haunted Shrewsbury` by Martin Wood

I have just finished reading this little book, given to me for Christmas - `A Gardener`s Latin` by Richard Bird is still waiting for my attention!

`Haunted Shrewsbury`, not surprisingly, telling the stories of apparitions, mists, `energy orbs` and other phantoms who populate the buildings and streets of Shrewsbury.  A fascinating read by someone who knows the history of our county town like the back of his hand.

Martin, at 7 food 2 inches, is the tallest Town Cryer in the country and stands high above the crowds on Pride Hill, he has made a career of being an interesting person, I imagine his Ghosts Walks around the town are highly entertaining, judging from some of his amusing comments in the book.  On the ghost who used to appear in Telephone House which stood on Smithfield Road, "Now we know for certain, because it is well documented, that the Normans never had telephones", so what was a ghost of a Norman soldier doing on the 5th floor of Telephone House? "It can`t have been for not paying his telephone bill, that`s for sure".

I look forward to a book on the life of this delightful man.
