Gobowen Station Community Open Day

Message from Steve Boulding with apologies for last minute information.

All are welcome at the
Gobowen Station Community Open Day
tomorrow (Saturday 12th May) between 10am and 4pm.

There will be fun activities for children, a free vintage bus shuttle between Gobowen and Oswestry Station, small local businesses and community groups will have stalls, and representatives of the community trust which has now raised the funds to acquire and restore the beautiful historic Grade II* listed station buildings for community use, and is also promoting the re-opening of the railway between Gobowen and Oswestry, with an intermediate stop serving the Orthopaedic Hospital, will be on hand to explain the exciting plans for the future.

The Station Cafe, run by trainees from the nearby Derwen College for disabled people, which is normally open only on Mondays to Fridays, will be open all day on Saturday, offering everything from tea and fresh filter coffee and their own range of delicious cakes (baked in house) to all-day breakfast, light lunches and snacks. (Gobowen Stn. satnav SY11 3JS).

Severn Dee Travel, the not-for-profit volunteer-run community company which operates the ticket office at Gobowen, provides the premises and facilities for the Cafe to the College free of charge.

There is also the opportunity whilst in the area to visit Derwen College's Garden Centre just down the road (satnav SY11 3JA) which many of you will already know has a fantastic range of plants and trees, and home-produced jams and preserves, etc. (Derwen College is a registered charity).
