Beware TV Licensing scam email

Dear Blogger

Message from Gary Wann, Shotatton.

Look out for phishing (scam) emails purported to be from TV licensing.  It looks official and will say something like "We were unable to collect your fee by Direct Debit"

Giveaway details are:
  • The email will probably not actually be addressed to you, but some random email address
  • The sender email will be a random address, although this can be made to look like a genuine TV Licensing email address
  • The content will not be addressed to you by name, my email said 'Dear,' and nothing else.  It might however be addressed to your email e.g. 'Dear, Fred.Blogs@gmail.com
Don't click on the 'Update your details' or "Click here to pay' etc as you will be taken to a site where your money/details will be stolen.

I won't post a link here (for obvious reasons!) but if you Google for 'UK TV Licence phishing email' the official TV licensing has a good guide on what to look for is these scam emails.  If in doubt, check your paper license if you still have one, or your online TV license account using the contact details you hold rather than any links in an email

I'm fairly savvy regarding these scams, but I did have to think twice about this one!

Regards

Gary Wann
