Gardens open in Shropshire for the National Garden Scheme

week commencing Saturday 20th May

Four gardens open this week.  KINTON GROVE, Kinton, SY4 1AZ is open on Saturday 20th May and Sunday 21st May from 11 am to 5 pm. Off A5, between Shrewsbury & Oswestry, approx 1m from Nesscliffe. Coming from Shrewsbury to Oswestry on the A5, take the 3rd exit off the Wolfshead r'about (at the end of the Nesscliffe bypass) & follow directions to Kinton, approx 1m. Admission £5, children free. Home-made teas.

A garden of ¾ acre surrounding a Georgian house. The garden features well filled herbaceous borders, roses, a gravel area, raised vegetable beds, and a wide range of interesting trees and shrubs. Hedges, including some as old as the house, divide up the garden. Lovely views across the Breidden hills and plenty of pleasant places to sit, whilst enjoying cream tea and cakes. Wheelchair access is possible, but on uneven, narrow paths.

RUTHALL MANOR, Ditton Priors, WV16 6TN. 7m SW of Bridgnorth is open on Saturday 20th May and Sunday 21st May from 12.30 pm to 5.30 pm.  At Ditton Priors Churcht take road signed Bridgnorth. then 2nd L. Garden 1m. Admission £5, children free. Home-made teas until 4:30 pm. Dogs on leads welcome.

Offset by a mature collection of specimen trees, the garden is divided into intimate sections, carefully linked by winding paths. The front lawn flanked by striking borders, extends to a gravel, art garden and ha-ha. Clematis and roses scramble through an eclectic collection of wrought-iron work, unique pottery and secluded seating. A stunning horse pond with primulas, iris and bog plants. Lots of lovely shrubs to see. Jigsaw puzzle sale. Donation to NGS from refreshments. Wheelchair access to most parts.

BROWNHILL HOUSE, Ruyton XI Towns, SY4 1LR is open on Sunday 21st May and Tuesday 23rd May from 10 am to 6.30 pm.  9m NW of Shrewsbury on B4397. On the B4397 in the village of Ruyton XI Towns.  Admission £5, children free. Pre-booking essential, please visit www.ngs.org.uk for information & booking. Home-made teas.

A unique 2 acre hillside garden with many steps and levels bordering River Perry. Visitors can enjoy a wide variety of plants and styles from formal terraces to woodland paths. The Good Garden Guide said 'It has to be seen to be believed'. The lower areas are for the sure-footed while the upper levels with a large kitchen garden and glasshouses have many places to sit and enjoy the views. Kit cars on show.

STANLEY HALL GARDENS, Bridgnorth, WV16 4SP is open on Sunday 21th May from 2 pm to 6 pm.  ½m N of Bridgnorth. Leave Bridgnorth by N gate B4373; turn R at Stanley Lane. Pass Golf Course Club House on L & turn L at Lodge. Admission £5, children free. Home-made teas. Refreshments in aid of Astley Abbots Church. Dogs on leads welcome.

Georgian landscaped drive with rhododendrons, fine trees in parkland setting, woodland walks and fish ponds. Restored ice house. Dower House (Mr and Mrs C Wells): 4 acres of specimen trees, contemporary sculpture, walled vegetable garden and potager; South Lodge (Mr Tim Warren) Hillside cottage garden. Wheelchair access to the main gardens.

Athough some of our gardens take payment by card reader. it is often difficult to connect to 4G or Wifi in rural areas, so please have cash available.
