Apologies to anyone who didn't receive last weeks email. For some reason all btinternet addresses, and a few others, were bounced.  This problem seems to be resolved, but if you have an alternative email as well as your btinternet address, do send it to me (fiona.chancellor@ngs.org.uk), in case the problem reoccurs.

Five gardens open this week.  THE PADDOCK. Annscroft, Shrewsbury, SY5 8AN, is open on Saturday 13th May from 11 am to 5 pm.  On road from Annscroft to Hanwood/Plealey 200 yds from the Xrds. Parking is at The Farriers SY5 8AN - on the road from Annscroft to Exfords Green. Admission £6, children free. Home-made teas. Dogs on leads are welcome.

A mini arboretum in which 70 trees are tagged - some of which are rare. The collection includes 12 different Acers and a cluster of 6 Gingko Bilobas. A waterfall cascades through three levels.  An impressive small garden. Wheelchair access is available, by paths and grass, to most of the garden.

RORRINGTON LODGE, Rorrington, Chirbury, SY15 6BX is also open on Saturday 13th - May from 2 pm to 5 pm.  Between Chirbury & Marton. Signed from Marton & Wotherton. Admission £5, children free. Home-made teas. Refreshments in aid of local charities.

Hillside garden with spectacular 360 degree views of the surrounding countryside and Welsh Hills. Interesting collection of trees and shrubs in their spring beauty - lovely places to wander with some very steep banks but accessible around most of the garden. Attractive parterre-style planting around the house and pool. Plenty of places to sit, have a cup of tea and admire the views. Wheelchair access around most of the garden except steep banks.

THE FERNS, Newport Street, Clun, SY7 8JZ is open on Sunday 14th May from 12 pm to 6 pm.  Enter Clun from Craven Arms.Take 2nd R signed into Ford St. At T-junction turn R for parking in the Memorial Hall car park (100 yds). Retrace steps to T junction. The Ferns is on L. Admission £5, children free. Dogs on leads welcome.

A formal village garden of ¾ acre, approached via a drive lined with crab apple and pear trees. On the right is the autumn garden, giving fine views of the surrounding hills. From the front courtyard garden a path leads through double herbaceous borders to further rooms, of yew, beech and box. There is also a rear courtyard with tender exotics. Lily pond and statuary.

THE LEASOWES, Cound, Shrewsbury, SY5 6AF is opening for the NGS for the first time on Sunday 14th May from 10.30 am to 5 pm. 7m SE of Shrewsbury. On the A458 SE of Shrewsbury, 500m to the E of the Riverside Inn adjoining Oakleys, the lawnmower business.  Admission £6, children free. Light refreshments. Dogs on leads are allowed.

Within the superstructure of mature larches and interconnected ponds, a

wide range of rhododendrons and azaleas have been planted as well as shade appreciating trees and shrubs over 10 acres. A large offering of roses of all descriptions provide colour throughout the formal gardens.

LONGDEN MANOR, Plealey, SY5 0XL is also  open on Sunday 14th May from 10 am to 4 pm.  From Shrewsbury take C150 Longden Road. On entering Longden Village, opp The Tankerville Arms & Village Shop on L, turn R into Manor Ln. Admission £5, children free. Homemade teas.

Large estate garden with lots of character and interest: woodland walks and grass paths; humorous topiary; wide variety of specimen trees; rhododendrons and azaleas; wildflowers; restored water garden; panoramic vistas of surrounding countryside; holly garden. Also, giant Jenga, skittles and croquet - a great place for all the family to visit. Topiary trail for children including giraffe, pelican, otter, kingfisher, shark, gorilla and a goose.

Athough some of our gardens take payment by card reader. it is often difficult to connect to 4G or Wifi in rural areas, so please have cash available.
