Message from Avril Sanders Royle - co-ordinator of Ruyton Remembers Commemoration.
I am pleased to announce that our very own campanologists will be ringing the bells in St John's Church in Ruyton XI Towns for the centenary of peace being declared at the end of WWI. They will ring from 7Pm for 15 mins. This, of course, means that they will not be able to come to the beacon event itself, so they will miss this amazing event. However, I'm sure we will all be very grateful for their efforts in marking the occasion. As far as I can see from the Battles Over website, the nearest bells to ours will be at St Oswald's in Oswestry, St Martin's in St Martins and St Mary's in Ellesmere. I have heard that Nesscliffe are planning to ring bells but haven't had that confirmed.
The nearest beacons are Clive, Trefonen and Bayston Hill.
Here's a picture of your very own beacon nearly finished. It's massive!
