ME MYSELF & MISS GIBBS

After a successful run at Edinburgh Fringe 2011, ‘Me, Myself and Miss Gibbs’ is touring with Arts Alive.  This intriguing one woman show started with a second hand postcard, which shows a picture of Lincoln cathedral and was sent in 1910 to a Miss I. Gibbs bearing the words:  “Be careful tomorrow.  A.C.”

Francesca Millican Slater investigates the cryptic message sent 100 years ago and an intricate story unfolds; part detective noir, part lecture and part biography:  What happens when she starts tracing a history that isn’t her own?  Why did Miss Gibbs have to be careful tomorrow?  The publication of the 1911 census enabled Francesca to find out even more about Miss Gibbs and to update her show for new audiences.

‘Me, Myself and Miss Gibbs’ is an intimate crafted performance full of human warmth for anyone who likes a good yarn or is simply interested in exploring the human stories behind historic source material.

‘Clever and touching‘  The Guardian   ‘Compelling * * * *’  The Scotsman

‘On a stage that slowly becomes encircled with maps, photographs and marriage certificates, Millican-Slater traces a history of early deaths, orphanages and suffragette protest, creating a capsule of Edwardian London. She ends with a quiet surprise that it would be unjust to reveal.’  The Observer
