Ann Johnson is Walking to China

This message comes from Ann Johnson.  Ann`s late husband, Bill Jones, was a pillar of RATS and the Village Hall Committee, always there to help when he could, even through those dreadful  six years.

BILL JONES MEMORIAL WALK

Many of you will be aware that just over 12 months ago, my lovely husband Bill died, having been battling a cancer called Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma.

Over the years Bill was being treated at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, his time was split between the clinic where he was an outpatient and Ward 23H. Almost without exception, the staff we met were outstanding; they knew their job, did it thoroughly and skilfully and at the same time became friends, whose presence and support made everything we went through, even at the end, bearable. During all that time, the charity Lingen Davies Cancer Relief was raising money to build a brand new outpatients’ centre, which opened last summer. Now the charity raises funds to keep it going to the standard that allows the staff to continue providing that level of care.

I wouldn’t wish our experiences over the 6 years on anyone, but it happens all the time and so what I would want to see (and I know Bill would feel the same) is that this professionalism, commitment and compassion is available to anyone who ever needs it. Lingen Davies provides the facilities that allows this to happen and so to support that, I have signed up to do a walk on sections of the Great Wall of China in April next year to raise money for the charity.

I want to try and raise around £3500 and so would very much appreciate it if you could contribute to that sometime between now and April 2014. I have a ‘Just Giving’ page, where you can donate directly -and as often as you like! You’ll find it at: http://www.justgiving.com/remember/61181/Bill-Jones
Thank you.
