Gardens open for the NGS

Record number of gardens open for NGS charity this week

8 of Shropshire's best gardens will be open to visitors this coming week for the National Gardens Scheme (NGS) charity:
Thursday 23rd June (2-5pm): Avocet: Plealey, 6 miles SW of Shrewsbury. packed full of wonderful plants, colour and scent, with many secret areas to sit and enjoy a home-made tea and admire the views beyond the garden. Admission is £3.50 for adults, free for children.  Refreshments and plants for sale.  
Friday 24th June (11-3pm): Norton Farm: Norton, 8 miles N of Ludlow.  This old farm, overlooking the Clee Hills, has been tastefully restored as delightful holiday cottages surrounded by pretty Mediterranean-style gardens with old walls and maturing herbaceous borders, old orchard. Admission is £4 for adults, free for children.  Refreshments and plants for sale.  
Saturday 25th, Sunday 26th and Monday 27th June (2-6pm): Ruthall Manor: Ditton Priors, 7 miles SW of Bridgnorth.  Unusual and rare specimen trees surrounding a lovely, well designed garden full of interesting herbaceous planting and shrubs, interconnected by winding paths; old horse-pond packed full of primulas and irises; Admission is £4 for adults, free for children.  Homemade teas and plants for sale. 
Saturday 25th & Sunday 26th June (2-5.30pm): Moortown: nr Wellington, between High Ercal and Crudgington. One-acre garden packed full of interesting and colourful plants all year round but is particularly delightful in mid-summer when the old fashioned, the unusual and even the oddities of plant life can be found in "controlled confusion". Admission is £5 for adults, free for children; teas available.  
Sunday 26th June only (2-5.30pm): Holmcroft: Brimfield, nr Ludlow. Quintessential cottage garden surrounding a 17th century thatched cottage; wide collection of roses and classic herbaceous borders including 80+ climbing plants in this beautiful summer garden.  Admission is £4 for adults, free for children.  Plants and homemade teas.
Sunday 26th June only (11-5pm): Mynd Hardy Plants: Delbury Hall, Diddlebury, between Ludlow and Bridgnorth.  Classic walled garden packed full of planted areas and plants for sale awaits visitors to this NGS garden which forms part of the Delbury Hall estate in the delightful village of Diddlebury in the Corvedale. Admission is £4 for adults, free for children.  Teas available.  
Tuesday 28th June (1-5pm): The Croft: Ash Magna, nr Whitchurch.  This delightful green space is a popular NGS garden for families and children with plenty to see and do: lovely borders buzzing with wildlife, productive garden, dipping pond, four-legged lawnmowers!  Open on Tuesday 28th June (1-5pm) and every Tuesday until the 23rd August.  Admission is £3 for adults, free for children. Refreshments available.
Tuesday 28th June (1.30-5pm): Brownhill House: Ruyton XI Towns, between Shrewsbury and Oswestry. Unique steeply sloping hillside garden bordering the River Perry with terraces connected by more than 700 steps but don`t be put off, if you can manage 5 steps you can see the top of the garden and look down to the river and enjoy the view across the fields. Many changes made to garden in last year.  Admission is £3.50 for adults, free for children, who must be carefully supervised.  Teas and plants for sale. 

Visitors to NGS gardens will have the pleasure of knowing that their entrance fee is supporting many vital cancer and nursing charities, including Macmillan Cancer Support, Marie Curie, Hospices UK and the Carers Trust. The Scheme also supports Parkinson's UK and, for the first time this year, the MS Society.  The National Gardens Scheme gave £2.73m to the charities it supports from monies raised in 2015. Details of all NGS gardens open this year can be found on the NGS website: www.ngs.org.uk.
