BOOKA BOOKSHOP, Church Street, Oswestry has won Midland & Wales INDEPENDENT BOOKSHOP OF THE YEAR Last Friday we discovered that we had won Independent Bookshop of the Year 2014 for our region - Midlands and Wales, in the Bookseller Industry Awards. We are now on the shortlist for Independent Bookshop of the Year. This will be announced on Monday 12th May at a glittering ceremony in London. We are absolutely thrilled and thought that we should share this exciting news with you all. The fifth Oswestry LitFest is in full swing and tonight Martin Bell will present 'The Wilfred Owen Lecture' at Holy Trinity Church. In case you missed tickets for this event, we still have tickets left for: Paul Rees on Saturday 22nd March. Paul will be talking about his life as a music journalist and his experiences of interviewing rock/pop stars from Plant to Macca, by way of the likes of Madonna and Adele. Paul is the author of 'Robert Plant - A Life'. The final event in our LitFest programme is on Sunday 23rd March with the amazing Jon Ronson. Jon is an author and documentary maker. His book 'The Men Who Stared at Goats' was made into a film starring George Clooney. If you remember the Frank Sidebottom Band - Jon Ronson played the keyboard and yes, he was the man underneath the Frank Sidebottom head. Finally, the team at Booka Bookshop have decided (quite madly) to have a Sport Relief Bake-off on the morning of Friday 21st March. We will each be creating a delicious cake and hoping to be crowned 'Booka Bookshop Bake-off Champion'. The winner will be decided by you, our wonderful customers. You can sample the cakes for a donation to Sport Relief and then vote for your favourite. Hope you can come along, enjoy some cake and support a good cause.
