Wild - Cheryl Strayed

Tuesday 15th October 2013 – 7.00pm at Booka

Wild – A Journey From Lost to Found

Join us for an evening with Cheryl Strayed as she talks about her memoir Wild - the Oprah bookclub choice, New York Times Bestseller and Radio 4 Book of the Week.

Wild tells the inspiring story of an eleven-hundred mile solo hike that Cheryl Strayed undertook at the age of twenty-six. Four years earlier she thought she had lost everything when her mother died of cancer.  Her family scattered in their grief, her marriage soon crumbled and slowly her life spun out of control. With seemingly nothing to lose, she made the most impulsive decision of her life: to walk the Pacific Crest Trail from the Mojave Desert through California and Oregon to Washington state – and to do it alone. She had no experience of long-distance hiking or backpacking.

Told with suspense, warmth and humour, Wild vividly captures the terrors and pleasures of a journey that maddened, and terrified and which ultimately strengthened and healed her.

Tickets: £10 (includes a signed paperback copy of Wild, plus refreshments)

Please book in advance - for tickets,  call in at the shop, give us a call or send us an email.

If you are unable to attend the event but would like a signed and dedicated copy of Wild, please contact us.

For nearly ten years, the Roman Empire has fought ceaselessly to strengthen its hold over Britannia. But opposition from native tribes led by the ruthless warrior Caratacus threatens to destroy everything. Prefect Cato and Centurion Macro are summoned by Governor Ostorius to Londinium. Tasked with leading a newly formed cavalry cohort into the heartland of Wales, they must destroy the growing resistance. But with Caratacus hatching increasingly ambitious plans and disorder threatening from within Macro and Cato’s own ranks, this final test will push the soldiers to their limits.
