Gardens open in Shropshire for the National Garden Scheme 

week commencing Saturday 6th May

Five gardens open this week.  HENLEY HALL, Henley, Ludlow, SY8 3HD is open on Sunday 7th May from 10 am to 5 pm.   2m E of Ludlow. 1½m from A49. Take A4117

signed to Clee Hill & Cleobury Mortimer. On reaching Henley, the gates to

Henley Hall are on R when travelling towards Clee Hill. Admission £6, children free. Home-made teas. Dogs on leads welcome.

Henley Hall offers a mixture of formal and informal gardens. The historic elements include a formal lawn, stone staircase with balustrades, a ha-ha and an ornate stone arched bridge with decorative weirs over the river Ledwyche, created in 1874. Other highlights include walkways along the banks of the river and woodland paths. The listed Orangery will serve as a 'pop-up' tea room at the garden opening. Some parts of the garden are accessible by wheelchair.

LONGNER HALL, Atcham, Shrewsbury, SY4 4TG is also open on Sunday 7th May from 2 pm to 5 pm. 4m SE of Shrewsbury. From M54 follow A5 to Shrewsbury, then B4380 to

Atcham. From Atcham take Uffington Rd, entrance ¼m on L. Admission £6, children free. Home-made teas. Refreshments in aid of St Eatas Church, Atcham.

A long drive approach through parkland designed by Humphry Repton. Walks lined with golden yew through extensive lawns, with views over Severn Valley. Borders containing roses and herbaceous shrubs, also ancient yew wood. Enclosed 1 acre walled garden open to NGS visitors. Mixed planting, garden buildings, tower and game larder. Short woodland walk around old moat pond which is not suitable for wheelchairs.

OTELEY, Ellesmere, SY12 0PB is the third garden open on Sunday 7th May from 11 am to 4 pm.  1m SE of Ellesmere. Entrance out of Ellesmere past Mere, opposite Convent near to A528/495 junction.  Admission £6, children free. Light refreshments. Dogs on leads welcome.

10 acres running down to The Mere. Walled kitchen garden, architectural  features, many old interesting trees. Rhododendrons, azaleas, wild woodland walk and views across Mere to Ellesmere. First opened in 1927 when the National Garden Scheme started. Beautiful setting on the Mere.

GOLDSTONE HALL GARDENS, Goldstone, Market Drayton, TF9 2NA is open for the NGS on Wednesday May 10th from 11 am to 4.30 pm. 5m N of Newport

on A41. Follow brown signs from Hinstock. From Shrewsbury A53, R for A41

Hinstock & follow brown signs & NGS signs. Admission £7.50,

children free. Cream teas.

 

5 acres with highly productive beautiful kitchen garden. Unusual vegetables and fruits - alpine strawberries; heritage tomatoes, salad, chillies, celeriac. NEEN VIEW, Neen Sollars, Cleobury Mortimer, DY14 9AB is also open on Wednesday 10th May from 12 pm to 5 pm.   3m from the Market Town of Cleobury Mortimer. From A456 past Mamble, turn R at Neen Sollars, follow lane to Live & Let Live for parking. From Cleobury take the Tenbury Rd, turn L & L again then up the hill to Neen View gardens. Admission £5, children free. Dogs on leads welcome.

A woodland garden with stunning panoramic views of the Clee Hills and Teme Valley. Mature trees including azaleas, camellias and rhododendrons. Wildlife ponds and wildflower meadow. There are plenty of seats to enjoy the views. Walking around you will find a ruined Bothy and Japanese stream garden.

Athough some of our gardens take payment by card reader. it is often difficult to connect to 4G or Wifi in rural areas, so please have cash available.
