Volunteering opportunities

Dear Blogger,

Volunteers needed at Oswestry Library.  Also, Qube Art and Exhibition Centre have a list of where volunteers are needed.

Qube | Volunteering (qube-oca.org.uk)

Siobhan says it is wel used so a good place to start if you are looking for volunteer work. .

Voluntary Digital Support Assistant

We are looking for volunteers who would be willing to give a couple of hours a week to support local residents over 65 years of age to improve their digital skills.

The pandemic highlighted that there are lots of people in this demographic who struggled with isolation and access barriers due to being unfamiliar with digital tools. We are trying to help, but could use some extra pairs of hands!

Volunteering for this role would involve sitting with a learner for 1 hour a week for 8-10 weeks, in the library space, helping and encouraging them to navigate through basic online learning modules that will show them everything from how to use a mouse and keyboard, to how to save files and how to browse the internet.

Competence with digital skill is obviously required, but more important are the mentorship and friendly coaching skills to help bring on the confidence of learners.

Could you help? If so, please email us or give us a call. Oswestry.library@shropshire.gov.uk

Voluntary Website Assistant

Our colleagues in the Oswestry Family and Local History Group are in need of some support to run their website. This voluntary role would involve updating the information on the site, uploading files and/or making amendments as and when required by the group. No Local History research experience is required, just some experience with managing simple websites and a willingness to assist. Could you help? If so, in first instance please email oswestry.library@shropshire.gov.uk and we will put you in touch.

These are the main vacancies right now, but if we find ourselves seeking any other roles over the summer I'll highlight them in the monthly events mailing in case people are of a mind to include them.
