his Friday, Sept. 25th, Severn Dee Travel are hosting a World's Biggest Coffee Morning from 9am to 3.30pm (!) to raise funds for Macmillan.
It will be held at the waiting room at Gobowen Railway Station (Satnav SY11 3JS).
Severn Dee Travel is a not-for-profit community company which was founded 20 years ago by the late David Lloyd, former Head of Geography at Moreton Hall School, Whittington, to take over the running of the ticket office at Gobowen which was scheduled for closure, and thus saved yet another busy station from becoming unstaffed. David will have been known to many as a charismatic campaigner for better public transport (including the push for the re-opening of Baschurch Station), until his untimely death a few years ago.
SDT has helped to preserve the historic buildings at Gobowen, and also provides facilities free of charge to nearby Derwen College to run a small cafe at the station, appreciated both by travellers and by the trainees at the College, who have physical and/or learning disabilities, who gain confidence and valuable experience from working at the cafe and interacting with the public.
Please come along and meet the staff and volunteers at Gobowen, and help Macmillan's local support group raise a lot of money for this invaluable and much-loved charity. If you're good at baking, make a few cakes of your own and bring them along !
Kind regards,
Sue and Steve Boulding
